All about Bruce

Bruce's mum told us:

At just 9 months old, we were told the unthinkable… our boy Bruce had one of the most severe cases of hip dysplasia the vets had ever seen. Their advice was something no family ever wants to hear, to let him go.

We were completely broken.

We rescued Bruce when he was just 8 weeks old, from a life that hadn’t been kind to him. What we didn’t realise then… is that he would go on to rescue us right back. He became part of our little family, me, Jamie, Lottie, and our other dog Banana, and filled our home with so much love.

We knew something wasn’t quite right early on. He struggled with the stairs, couldn’t jump up, but we were told he was just being lazy. Twice we trusted that. Until the day he reacted out of character, a moment we now understand was pure pain, not aggression.

Changing vets changed everything.

The X-rays confirmed our worst fears. I’ll never forget that phone call… being told it might not be fair for him to carry on. Sitting there, being asked to make a decision that felt rushed and so final, but something in me said no. Not yet. Not without trying everything.

Because Bruce was still Bruce. Happy. Full of life. Still our boy.

We brought him home with pain relief, and within days… he was back. Running, playing, being himself again. The only thing missing was the heartbreak in his eyes when the others went for a walk without him.

Then everything changed.

How we met Winston’s Wheels

A friend messaged me about a charity that provides wheels for dogs. Wheels… something I didn’t even know existed. Within seconds I applied, and by the next morning they had replied. The day after that, they were on their way.

I couldn’t believe it.

The first walk with his wheels is something I will never, ever forget. He was unsure at first… but the moment we reached the field, it was like watching him come back to life. I cried the entire walk. Our boy was back fearless, free, and full of joy.

Since that day, nothing has stopped him.

He even paws at his wheels to tell us when he’s ready to go. They’ve given him his life back, his freedom, his happiness, his place alongside us again. They’re even helping him build strength, giving him a chance that one day, when he’s fully grown, surgery might be possible.

Bruce isn’t just a dog.

He’s our strength. Our hope.

Winston’s Wheels came into our lives at our darkest moment and completely changed our story. Because of them, Bruce can run, play, and be the happy boy he’s always been. The joy they’ve brought back into our home is something we will carry with us forever.

We look forward to seeing Bruce's adventures on his wheels.
